About OHA & The Mission
Founded by licensed mental health professionals, Overcoming Health Anxiety bridges the gap between mental and physical health. We provide actionable, evidence-based tools rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to transform how health anxiety is understood and treated. Our platform empowers individuals, loved ones, and healthcare professionals to move beyond the paralyzing "what-ifs" of chronic medical worry and embrace living with fear, not in fear.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Q: Who are the primary spokespeople for Overcoming Health Anxiety, and what are their qualifications? A: Our primary media spokespeople are co-founders Dr. Josh Spitalnick, PhD, ABPP (Board-Certified Clinical Psychologist) and Michael Stier, LCPC (Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor). Together, they bring over 30 years of specialized clinical experience treating OCD, health anxiety, and severe anxiety disorders using evidence-based modalities.
Q: What is the core premise of your book, The Complete Guide to Overcoming Health Anxiety? A: Unlike typical books, The Complete Guide to Overcoming Health Anxiety (subtitled "How to Live Life to the Fullest... Because You're Not Dead (Yet)", serves as a humorous, compassionate, and clinically rigorous roadmap showing readers how to break the exhausting cycle of body-scanning, reassurance-seeking, and "cyberchondria" using CBT and ACT principles. The book is written incorporating evidenced-based interventions and the author's combined experienced as anxiety specialists treating OCD, health anxiety, and other anxiety disorders.Â
Q: Are the founders available for live broadcasts, podcast recordings, or virtual panels? A: Yes. Both Dr. Spitalnick and Mr. Stier are highly experienced public speakers and media guests. They are available for podcast interviews, television/radio commentary, panel discussions, and expert digital quotes. We can accommodate tight media deadlines and have high-quality audio/video setups for remote broadcasts.
Q: Why is health anxiety an exceptionally critical topic for the media to cover right now? A: In the modern digital age, "Cyberchondria"—the escalation of health anxiety due to online symptom searching—is at an all-time high. Algorithms are designed to show users worst-case scenarios, turning routine physical sensations into psychological crises. Furthermore, navigating post-pandemic health realities and the rise of AI-driven medical tools has left millions of people hyper-fixated on health data, making evidence-based management tools an urgent public health conversation.
Q: Can you provide commentary on general anxiety or OCD, or do you only speak on health anxiety? A: While health anxiety is our flagship specialty, both founders are recognized experts across the entire spectrum of anxiety disorders. We frequently provide expert commentary on Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Panic Disorder, generalized anxiety, phobias (such as fear of needles, blood, or medical settings), and the intersection of mental health with workplace stress or parenting.
